El Dr. Tom Roth, pionero en la Medicina del Sueño, inauguró en 1978 la clínica de medicina del dormir en el Hospital Henry Ford en Detroit, Michigan. Sus aportaciones a la investigación y educación en el área han sido muy amplias abarcando desde el tratamiento quirúrgico de la apnea obstructiva del sueño en los años 80 hasta sus contribuciones al entendimiento de la somnolencia diurna, así como también al uso de hipnóticos en el tratamiento del insomnio. Es coeditor de Principles and Practice of Sleep Medicine, el cual es considerado el libro de texto mas reputado en la especialidad. En la entrevista del 21 de julio de 2020 se revisa el uso clínico de hipnóticos desde el punto de vista conceptual y el de la práctica médica.

Dr. Tom Roth, a pioneer in Sleep Medicine, established the Henry Ford Hospital and Research Center in Detroit, Michigan in 1978. His research and educational contributions are broad, spanning from the surgical treatment of obstructive sleep apnea in the early years of the field, to major contributions to the understanding of the determinants of daytime sleepiness and the use of hypnotics in the management of Insomnia. He is coeditor of Principles and Practice of Sleep Medicine, which is regarded as the classic textbook in the field. The interview of July 21, 2020 addresses the hypnotic management of Insomnia both from a conceptual and a practical perspective. The interview reveals Dr. Roth's  unique expertise in the field.
